Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 160 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 65,000 individuals and families each year at our 90 locations, including 10,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross-section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

Short Term Housing Program: This program provides 50 units of congregate and transitional housing to PLWHA who are homeless or at serious risk of homelessness. There are 8 units of housing at the program’s congregate facility located at 27 Winthrop Street and there are 42 units of housing in the community. Seven community based apartments are for families and thirty-five clients share 16 (2) bedroom and 1 (3) bedroom apartments until permanent housing can be attained. Clients receive case management and other services. Transitional Congregate Housing Program: Provides nine units of emergency transitional housing to clients coming from HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) Emergency Placement Unit. Clients reside in our 24 hour congregate residence located at 25 Winthrop Street. Each individual has their own lockable bedroom but shares common areas such as the bathroom and living room. This housing is for single individuals only. The length of stay is generally limited to six months. Staff provides case management and housing placement services. The program’s goal is to prepare individuals for permanent housing placement. Emergency Transitional Congregate Housing Program: CAMBA’s Emergency Transitional Congregate Housing program provides ten units of emergency transitional congregate housing for single men and women who are HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) clients. HASA is the sole referral source for this housing. Each individual has their own lockable room but shares common space such as the bathrooms, living room and kitchen. Clients receive case management and residential/operational services such as meals and assistance when they move to permanent housing. Case management support is an integral part of achieving the program’s goal of helping clients to attain self-sufficiency.
