From Broadway to Building Blocks: Arts & STEM in Action at P.S. 170

At CAMBA’s Kids Unite program at P.S. 170, learning goes far beyond the classroom walls. Through dynamic arts and STEM enrichment, students are discovering new talents, building confidence, and engaging with hands-on experiences that spark creativity and critical thinking.

Recently, students had the exciting opportunity to learn choreography from the Broadway show Hell’s Kitchen in workshops led by Marquis Studios. Guided by professional teaching artists, students were introduced to Broadway-level performing arts instruction, gaining firsthand insight into the discipline, teamwork, and expressive power of dance. The experience not only exposed them to the world of professional theater, but also encouraged self-expression and collaboration in a supportive, high-energy environment.

Meanwhile, our first-grade students tapped into their inner engineers through “Destroy & Construct” workshops with KoKo NYC. These hands-on STEM activities challenged students to think creatively and work collaboratively as they tackled building projects and problem-solving exercises. By experimenting, testing ideas, and rebuilding, students learned foundational engineering concepts while strengthening communication and teamwork skills.

Together, these arts and STEM experiences reflect CAMBA’s commitment to whole-child enrichment—supporting both creative expression and academic growth. By connecting students to professional artists and innovative STEM educators, we are helping to build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Programs like these ensure that students at P.S. 170 continue to thrive—not just academically, but creatively and socially as well.
