Family & Neighborhood Safety

As an organization, CAMBA recognizes and works to change unhealthy community norms. In Brownsville, that means ending gun violence and providing young people with real alternatives through our Brownsville In, Violence Out (BIVO) program. CAMBA also works to prevent violence against women which is at epidemic levels in Brooklyn, as it is across the country. These devastating acts are most frequently committed by someone known to the victim. Domestic violence is especially traumatic for immigrant women due to language barriers and the fears of many regarding their immigration status. To address this crisis, we offer a 24/7 victims’ hotline, escort services, crisis counseling, individual and group support and education, advocacy, emergency cash assistance, and referrals to other services.

We also work in schools to teach at-risk teens how to develop healthy relationships and to increase emotional support and stability.

CAMBA is one of many community-based organizations partnering at the Brooklyn Family Justice Center. The overall objective of the Family Justice Center is to provide for the effective delivery of services to victims of domestic violence. Essential advocacy, case management, and criminal and civil legal assistance are all available under one roof.
