Community Heroes

CAMBA’s Kings Inn Family Shelter received  donated back-to-school supplies from the  Circle of SiSTAR’s Brunch Inc. and in response to additional needs for the shelter, the group also donated thousands of wipes and hygiene products. As described by the group: Circle of SiSTARS Brunch (CSB) is a group of powerful ladies that meet on the first Saturday of each month to inspire and motivate each other, to share personal beliefs, talents, and aspirations as women to help better ourselves and our community. What a wonderful mission – thank you SiSTARS – you are indeed STARS!

Thanks to Gary Tai at Empire Blue who has made “back to school” a lot nicer for children at the Flagstone Family Center. They delivered 72 Boys backpacks, 48 Girl backpacks, and Liberty Dental Gifts Bags. Our thanks also to Nazia Ahmed at Serve A Meal who delivered 146 meals to Broadway House, our shelter for single adult women.

We are most grateful to Carmen and Bill Biddle, who have shown their generosity of time and spirit, by making masks according to CDC Guidelines and donating a total 700 masks to our family shelters.  The residents of The Landing in Queens and The Park Residence and Evergreen Family Shelters in the Bronx received adult and much needed children’s sized masks.

The caring and generosity of our neighbors during the past weeks has been extraordinary and uplifting for clients and staff. To the many friends and neighbors who made or donated masks, or who surprised us with food deliveries with the added benefit of supporting the local restaurants, thank you all!

Our sincere thanks to CAMBA Junior Board member Chef Christa Lynch of Brooklyn Braised restaurant, who has launched Meals On Us and is supporting the residents of our Kensington Family Shelter. Christa has engaged restaurant partners Gage & Tollner and Alta Calidad to each provide 50 meal packages for a family of four one day each week for 8 weeks. They began deliveries in June and our families have greatly appreciated the generosity and tasty cuisine. Thank You Chef Christa and partners.

The lovely masks pictured are from the Brooklyn Quilters Guild, who have partnered with the Park Slope Women’s Shelter for years. Each month they donate and raffle off a lovely homemade quilt for residents. Thank you Alice Braziller and the Brooklyn Quilters Guild for your time and talent.

Thank you also to “Aunt Veronica”, neighbor Katrina, and Kathryn Krase who made and donated much-needed masks.

Thank you to The MOM’s Network who donated 100 hot meals to the Park Residence in partnership with the Latino Pastoral Action Center. For the past two years The MOM’s Network led by CEO Jasmin Ortiz and supported by CAMBA liaison Jessica Toro have donated school supplies, toys and now prepared meals for our clients. We extend our ongoing thanks to the MOM’s Network and the Latino Pastoral Action Center for their kindness.

Thank you longtime CAMBA community partner Bethel Ministries, who helped connect us to Zam Barrett, owner of the 5M Mask Company, which graciously donated 200 masks to Magnolia House. Our thanks to Bethel Ministries for their ongoing support of CAMBA, and to Zam for his generosity.

Our sincere thanks to the Brooklyn Supported Agriculture (BSA), who has been bringing farm fresh food to our clients in the Maternal Infant Health Program. BSA has already delivered nutritious fresh foods to 15 struggling families. Thank you, also, to Grandchamps Restaurant, which serves as the base for BSA, and has facilitated pick-up orders of family style meals for 30 families. Our thanks to BSA, Grandchamps, and the community donations that are supporting this program.

Thank you to Brooklyn community members who have gone out of their way to support CAMBA through virtual gift drives. Rosanne Limoncelli made an appeal on behalf of CAMBA to her St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Sandwich Sunday Outreach Team, which resulted in generous support. Thank you to Rosanne and everyone at St. Ann and the Holy Trinity!

Much gratefulness to the Mount Horeb Baptist Churchmembers who delivered 90 bags of groceries along with these good wishes and inspiration to families at Kings Inn. We are grateful to Reverend Gilbert Pickett, Sr., Deaconess Doris Gross & Sister Diane Scott along with the Ann T. Moreland Health & Wellness Education Outreach Ministry who sponsored this gift.
