Family Self-Sufficiency

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program provides wrap around services to HPD Section 8 recipients including career counseling, connection to education, financial counseling, job training and placement, etc. All FSS clients are eligible for an Individual Development Account (IDA) to encourage savings and promote employment. As resident’s earnings increase, the extra money they pay in rent is put into an escrow account by HPD. At the end of the program, clients receive the money that has been saved on their behalf. They are encouraged to use this money to move toward homeownership, pay for education and/or training, or in other ways to enhance their self-sufficiency.
