Brooklyn Pride Brings Community Together

Last weekend, CAMBA’s HIV Prevention team joined with Brooklyn’s LGBTQ community in celebration of Brooklyn Pride. The team handed out condoms and information about the new HIV prevention methods, PreEP and PEP (Prep-Exposure Prophylaxis and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis), and later took part in the parade on CAMBA’s very own float. CAMBA’s HomeBase team was also on hand at the festivities and handed out information on homelessness prevention.

On June 12, in a more somber assembly, CAMBA’s Prevention program stood beside New York City’s Latino Commission on AIDS, elected officials and community partners to give remarks and memorialize the lives lost at Pulse night club in Orlando, Florida, last year.

Orlando, please know that the Puerto Rican/Latino community, the LGBTQ community, and all of New York City continues to stand with you.

-Councilwoman Rosie Mendez, NYC LGBT Caucus Chair

These reflections one year after the Orlando attacks served as a powerful reminder of the continuing battle for equality the LGBTQ community faces.

Activities and celebrations of Pride will continue for the rest of the month, with the official NYC Pride March on June 25 as the month’s grand finale.
